Wellbeing activities for children

Happy children with their hands in the air

If your child needs activities to keep them busy, the ideas here will provide them with a much-needed boost of serotonin. Our wellbeing activities for kids provide you with ways to occupy your child during the holidays, but also make them happier too!

Mental wellbeing activities ideas for kids:

Write a letter to a friend

Write a note to your friend. Tell them what you've been doing and talk about things that make you both smile. You could also draw a picture for them.

Make a time capsule

Use a box to gather together some items for a time capsule. Pop some items in that you can rediscover when you open your capsule in the future. When your time capsule is ready hide it somewhere, but make sure you make a note of where you put it!

Learn a new skill

Spend some time learning how to do something new and then show your new skill to family and friends! Maybe you could learn how to do some card tricks, or how to hula hoop. You could try to learn some of a new language, or how to dance along to one of your favourite songs.

Give some of your old belongings to charity

Clear out some of your toys and books that you've grown out of and take them to a charity shop for someone else to enjoy.

Gratefulness exercise

Write down or draw everything you are grateful for. Think about your favourite people, places, songs and things to do.

Create a comic strip

Making your own comic strip can be really fun. You can either create characters and your own story, or make a comic about a situation you've been going through at school or with friends. Making the comic strip about something that is causing you stress can help you work through it and feel better.

Letter to the future you

Write a letter to yourself in the future. Talk about what you'd like to achieve and do in your life, and places you'd like to go etc. Write about your life now and what you like to spend time doing. Keep it safe to read in a few year's time!

Make a feel-good display

Create a display of things that you're proud of- pictures you've drawn, certificates from school, awards, and photos of you with people you love.

Look at the stars

On a clear night go outside and look at the stars. Can you identify any star formations? Can you create a picture of what you saw?

Create a scrapbook of things that make you happy

Stick pictures in out of magazines, then add doodles, stickers, glitter and anything else that makes you smile!
